What's Happening to Your Skin

As you age your loose 1% of collagen each year. How does collagen work - Scaffolding etc. Use content from PSC
As we age, the natural production of collagen in the skin declines, leading to a reduction in its overall levels. Collagen is a structural protein that provides support and elasticity to the skin. This decline typically begins in our mid-20s and accelerates after the age of 30, with studies showing that collagen production decreases by approximately 1% per year after this point. As a result, the skin loses its firmness and resilience, leading to visible signs of aging such as the formation of fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging.

In addition to collagen depletion, the skin becomes thinner and more fragile with age, primarily due to a reduction in both collagen and elastin fibers, which are essential for skin’s strength and flexibility. Furthermore, the skin’s ability to retain moisture diminishes as the epidermis (the outer layer of skin) thins, leading to dryness and an increased vulnerability to environmental stressors.

WHICH SKIN TYPE IS IT GOOD FOR?
Dry skin occurs when your skin fails to retain enough moisture, typically due to a compromised skin barrier. The skin's outermost layer, called the stratum corneum, is made up of lipids and proteins that help prevent water from evaporating. When this barrier is damaged (from factors like harsh weather, sun exposure, hot showers, or even aging), it can lead to trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL), where moisture escapes from the skin at a faster rate than it can be replenished.

Abyssinian oil is derived from the seeds of the Crambe abyssinica plant, and it is packed with beneficial fatty acids, particularly erucic acid. This unique fatty acid composition makes Abyssinian oil an excellent option for dry and dehydrated skin. Unlike many oils, Abyssinian oil has an incredibly lightweight, non-greasy texture that absorbs quickly, leaving skin feeling hydrated without clogging pores.

Abyssinian oil helps to restore moisture by replenishing the skin’s natural lipid barrier. This oil also has the ability to improve skin elasticity, making it feel smoother and more supple. Additionally, its anti-inflammatory properties can help calm any irritation associated with dryness or sensitive skin.
