Raising Awareness About Plastic Waste This July
on Jul 02 2025
This month is no ordinary month… July is a global moment to raise awareness about plastic waste and inspire change. At Beauty Kitchen, we’ve long recognised this time of year as an opportunity to shine a light on the growing issue of plastic pollution and challenge ourselves—and our community—to make more planet-friendly choices. Because small steps really do make a big difference.
Why It Matters: Facing the Plastic Problem
Plastic has transformed modern life, but its convenience comes at a devastating environmental cost:
Every piece of plastic ever created still exists today.
Globally, over 430 million tonnes of plastic are produced annually, much of it single-use.
Despite widespread recycling initiatives, only 9% of plastic ever created has been recycled.
Around 23 million tonnes of plastic flow into our oceans each year. By 2050, there could be more plastic in the ocean than fish.
This isn't just an environmental problem; it's a deeply human one, affecting our health, wildlife, and future generations. Plastic pollution chokes marine life, disrupts ecosystems, and introduces harmful microplastics into the food chain and even our drinking water. And while plastic gets much of the attention, it's thesingle-use packaging—used once and thrown away—that makes up a huge proportion of this waste.
The Beauty Industry’s Plastic Problem
The beauty industry is a significant contributor to global plastic waste, with billions ofsingle-use bottles, jars, and packaging discarded every year. Recognising this, Beauty Kitchen decided to take a stand—collaborating with reuse platform Reposit to create our innovative Return for Reward programme, becoming one of the first beauty brands to standardise reusable packaging.
Since launching this initiative, we've created durable, reusable packaging from sustainable materials such as aluminium, stainless steel, and glass. Customers can simply return their empty Beauty Kitchen packaging free of charge; we then wash (to medical standards) and reuse it—dramatically cutting down packaging waste. Thanks to the participation of our incredible community, we've already prevented thousands of pieces of single-use packaging from ending up in landfill.
Microplastics: The Hidden Problem in Beauty
Beyond packaging, microplastics—tiny plastic particles added to many beauty formulations as fillers—pose another hidden threat. These microscopic fragments easily pass through our water systems, contaminating rivers and oceans, and harming wildlife. At Beauty Kitchen, we’ve always ensured our product formulations have no microplastics, believing beauty shouldn't come at the expense of our environment or your health.
What We’re Doing This July
In line with the global July campaign to reduce plastic waste and the powerful slogan "Small steps, big difference,”we're encouraging even more customers to take small, meaningful actions by returning their empty Beauty Kitchen packaging. It’s incredibly simple and free to participate—just send your empties back to us and we’ll do the rest.
Plus, we believe good deeds should be rewarded! For every bottle you return through our web app, you'll receive £2 voucher to spend on your next Beauty Kitchen purchase. That means if you return 5 bottles, you'll earn a £10 voucher! (If you return your packaging via the website form you’ll receive a discount off your next purchase.)
By returning your empties instead of throwing them away, you're helping us tackle the issue of single-use packaging waste head-on—and becoming part of a growing movement that’s changing beauty for the better.
Let’s Do This Together
This July, millions of people around the world are taking action to reduce plastic in their lives. Whether it’s switching to refillable beauty, cutting down on single-use plastics and packaging, or simply sharing your story—we’re here for it all.
So let’s keep going. Let’s keep learning. Let’s keep returning
Because small changes really do make a big impact.

Are You Part of Gen B? Why Supporting B Corps Is the Easiest Way to Create Real Change
on Mar 18 2025
Let’s be honest—choosing what to buy these days can feel like navigating a maze. So many options, so many claims, and so much noise. But underneath all that, more and more people are looking for something simple: to spend their money with brands that give a damn.
That’s where B Corp steps in. It’s not just a shiny badge or a bragging right—it’s a commitment to doing business better, for people and the planet. But the real magic? It’s not about going it alone. It’s about joining a collective force for good that’s growing by the day.
Not Just a Certification—It’s a Movement
B Corps aren’t in this for applause. We’re in it to change the game—and we don’t do that in silos. The B Corp community is built on collaboration, not competition. It’s a ripple effect: B Corps inspiring other businesses (yes, even the non-B ones!) to raise the bar.
Think Tony’s Chocolonely shaking up the chocolate world. Patagonia rethinking outdoor fashion. These aren’t just case studies—they’re proof that businesses can lead, and others will follow. It’s collective action in action.
And it’s not just the businesses that matter—it’s the people behind them. That’s where #GenB comes in.
Meet Gen B: The Generation That’s Redefining Business
#GenB isn’t about age—it’s about attitude. It’s for everyone who believes business can (and should) be a force for good. Whether you’re a founder, a frontline worker, or a customer filling your basket—you’re part of this.
At Beauty Kitchen, we love this campaign because it flips the script. It’s not about companies talking at people—it’s about inviting everyone in. Gen B is all of us who are pushing for better. More transparency. More accountability. More action.
And the easiest way to be part of it? Start by supporting the businesses that walk the talk. Buying from B Corps isn’t just shopping—it’s showing up for the future you want.
A Shortcut to Shopping with Purpose
Let’s face it—no one has time to read through every brand’s fine print. We get it. That’s why the B Corp stamp matters. It’s like a shortcut for your values. A little “B” that says, “We’ve done the hard work to do the right thing.”
Clothes, coffee, skincare, shampoo—you name it,there’s a B Corp for that. It’s a whole community of brilliant businesses doing things better. Buying better shouldn’t be hard. And now, it doesn’t have to be.
Why It Matters to Us at Beauty Kitchen
At Beauty Kitchen, we’re not here to tick boxes—we’re here to shake things up. Our returnable packaging system, Reposit, is just one way we’re showing what circular beauty really looks like.
Becoming a B Corp was never a marketing move—it was a natural step for us. It keeps us accountable, connects us with like-minded businesses, and most importantly, gives our customers an easy way to join the mission.
Because this isn’t about us. It’s about all of us.
By choosing B Corps, you’re voting for a better way to do business. One that’s kind to people and the planet. One that’s not business-as-usual, but business-as-a-force-for-good.
So, why become a B Corp?
Because change doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens together. And Gen B is already making it happen. Are you in?

Beauty Kitchen - A Vegan and Cruelty-Free Certified Business
on Jan 08 2025
There’s no denying that veganism plays a big part in sustainability, so we are working hard to have as many vegan options for you as possible.
What is Vegan Certification?
Vegan certification ensures that a beauty product contains no animal-derived ingredients or by-products and has not been tested on animals. Organisations like The Vegan Society provide certification after brands meet strict criteria.
Vegan Trademark is one of the most widely recognised symbols for certified vegan beauty.
The Vegan Trademark has been helping us to identify products that are free from animal ingredients since 1990. Registration with the trademark gives Beauty Kitchen the confidence to shout about our vegan and cruelty-free skincare credentials. Our values stem from a vision that beauty products do not need to contain animal fats or animal-based ingredients to be effective, and that animal testing is without a doubt unnecessary. We are proud to say that 95% of our products are registered with The Vegan Society, and the other 5% are vegetarian products that contain a small amount of sustainably sourced beeswax that is a waste by product of the honey industry.
What is Vegan Beauty? The Vegan Society classify a product as vegan when there are no animal derivatives or animal by-products used and the product has not been tested on animals at any time. Not only is vegan beauty kind to animals and the planet, but it’s also kinder to skin as alternative ingredients are generally gentler and more suited to sensitive skin types. The ingredients we use from naturally derived sourced are packed full of antioxidants, nutrients and natural oils.
Cruelty-Free Alternative Ingredients
Many cosmetics products contain animal derived ingredients such as Lanolin, Gelatin and Glycerin.
We use natural, nourishing ingredients such as organic coconut oil, shea butter, plant oils and marine extracts to provide just as effective results with a more sustainable impact on animals, people and planet.
“I’m incredibly proud to say that we have as many vegan options as we do, and to be registered with the vegan society is such an achievement.
I have wanted this from our first day at Beauty Kitchen and it’s a journey of exploration to find the best partners that will support, guide and recommend ways to become vegan” - Jo Chidley, Founder of Beauty Kitchen.

When you say “natural beauty” everyone has a different definition of what it means to them. For some, natural beauty means wearing no make-up, for others, it just means celebrating how they really look. It can mean a lot of different things, but for us, in our day to day, natural beauty is all about beauty products.

We’re a Best for the World B Corp Again!
on Jul 14 2022
In total, there are now 800 B Corp certified businesses within the UK and over 5,000 around the globe. We happen to be amongst the top 5% as a Best for the World!
Being a B Corp certified business means that we are meeting the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. Our B Corp certification has gone from strength to strength, from increasing our score in 2021 so that we became the highest scoring B Corp in the European beauty industry, to being announced as a Best for the World B Corp in Community. This year, we have done it again!
Community Impact AreaB Corp has evaluated our engagement with and impact on the communities we operate with including diversity, equity and inclusion, economic impact, civic engagement, charitable giving, and supply chain management.
Community is at the heart of Beauty Kitchen, whether that’s on a local, national, or global level. These are just a few examples of how we have earned the honour of Best for the World in this impact area:
Championing our reusable or compostable packaging that gives customers easy access to the circular economy
‘Beauty that Gives Back’ - for every sale, Beauty Kitchen donates 2% of sales revenue (instead of profit) to sustainable charity partners
Home-grown focus: products are manufactured in the UK, travel less and have a reduced carbon footprint
We are a female led business that helps build a sustainable ecosystem by creating jobs in local communities
We are incredibly proud of how we contribute to charitable organisations as a team too. Here are a few highlights:
In Kind Direct: we have donated over £200K worth of product through In Kind Direct to help 869 charitable organisations including those that support education, youth care, emergency relief, schools, and family welfare
The Seahorse Trust: we have supported their Studland Seahorse Project, focused on Studland Bay in Dorset, now a Marine Conservation Zone which will ensure that the existing laws will be enforced to protect and improve the habitat for species like Spiny seahorses
Plastic Soup Foundation: we are proud to be a Gold Business Angel for Plastic Soup Foundation meaning that we pursue an active policy to reduce the use of single use plastic and try to prevent leakage to the environment
Eco Soap Bank: we have helped to provide soap and hygiene education to the developing world, and so far, have donated the equivalent of 3.5K soap bars!
The NHS: we worked double time to produce 50K units of hand sanitiser in refillable, reusable bottles and donated over 230K units of our beauty products to organisations such as The NHS and the London Ambulance Service
Earthly: we have partnered with Earthly (another B Corp) as part of their reforestation project in Madagascar, and so far, we have help to plant over 5K mangrove trees
We couldn’t be prouder to be named a B Corp Best for the World yet again, and we fully understand that our work doesn’t stop here. We will always strive to do the best we can to benefit people, communities, and the planet - this is our promise to you!
